The Delt Flag Flies in New Hampshire
Kappa Lambda Installed at Keene State
Delta Tau Delta has always had a diverse portfolio of chapters within its ranks. In its history, the Fraternity has had chapters in most U.S. states and some Canadian provinces. For 64 years, however, one state has remained noticeably absent from the list of chapters: New Hampshire. Since the unfortunate closing of the Gamma Gamma Chapter at Dartmouth, the Fraternity flag was absent from the Granite State. That all changed on April 21, 2024, when Delta Tau Delta installed its newest chapter, Kappa Lambda, at Keene State College.
The story of the Keene State Crescent Colony is similar to many groups started in the shadows of the COVID-19 pandemic. Original recruitment had to manage pandemic restrictions, tabling limitations and anxiety among potential members. While the colony has had more than its share of rocky fits and starts, the installation they all attended in the student union validated the work they and so many other supporters contributed to make sure many other supporters contributed to ensure the Fraternity returned with pride and conviction.
Outside of New England, Keene State is not well known. Like many similar state schools, it originated as a teacher’s college in 1909 to supplement the growing population brought to education by the Industrial Revolution. Now nestled in a town of 22,000 residents, Keene State hosts roughly 3,000 students pursuing degrees varying from education to nursing. The Fraternity community remains small but cohesive. The Delts were invited to campus to complement the existing groups and attract a new type of man to the Fraternity.
Kappa Lambda Chapter is well represented with leaders in student government, the student activities association and the interfraternity council. At the Fraternity level, the chapter has already added one of its members to the undergraduate council and currently has another being considered as student director of the Arch Chapter.
Its founding president, Ethan Davis (2025), summarized the work of the colony best. when he said, “All the recognition is nice, but the truest reward is to see a bunch of strangers come together and become lifelong friends and brothers. I am honored to be called their leader,” Davis said.
Delts from all states should be proud to know the Fraternity flag has returned to its 40th state and can now set its sights firmly on the remaining 10.
