Welcome Parents

I want to thank you for all the support you have provided your son this fall. We know sending a child to college is normally a stressful situation and this fall may have added stress both for you and your son. Please know Delta Tau Delta is a committed partner to your son’s education. We continue working to increase resources available to your son to help him adjust to college life.

Please review the resources below and on delts.org and encourage your son to access them however he needs to. Please never hesitate to reach out to our office if you have a concern. 

Delta Tau Delta is proud your son has become one of the newest members of our Fraternity. As a parent you want your son to have a college experience that is exceptional, safe and rewarding. Our hope is the Fraternity will become a complement to his college education, as its core values of truth, courage, faith and power seek to educate men and inspire maturity.

Like all parents, you are eager to see your son succeed. And like many, you might not be fully aware of the benefits a fraternity can provide. Statistics show a significantly higher proportion of fraternity men graduate from college than compared to students who do not join a fraternity.

Whether his school is across town or across the country you want him to have a home away from home where he can continue to develop life skills and real-world skills not available in a classroom setting while he focuses on his academics.

Fraternities provide opportunities for leadership development through chapter officer positions, athletic teamwork, and involvement in community service projects, group activities and social interaction with other students, faculty and Delt alumni. The result? A more meaningful, useful and well-rounded education. From the day a member accepts his bid to the day he graduates from college, Delta Tau Delta’s member education program gives direction and purpose to create a distinctive Fraternity experience.

Encouraging members to take care of their mental health is a priority for Delta Tau Delta and the Fraternity is proud to offer Delt ULifeline, an anonymous, confidential online resource center, in partnership with The JED Foundation. As a benefit to members, the Fraternity also offers members access to Talkspace for one month at no cost. Through Building Up Brothers (BUB) the Fraternity strives to help students and alumni understand what well-being is, learn strategies to improve their well-being and help others when they are struggling with their well-being. BUB is a vehicle to educate and inform students and alumni on topics related to four domains; mental, physical, social or emotional well-being.

Delta Tau Delta is one of the most innovative and progressive organizations on college campuses throughout the United States. Founded by eight men in 1858, more than 170,000 college men have accepted membership into Delta Tau Delta and have committed themselves to lives of excellence. Many are successful leaders in business, industry and professional endeavors around the globe.

The results of a recent Gallup Survey show Fraternity membership is tied to strong college experiences, development of career skills and post-graduate wellbeing.

Before your son left for college you were involved in his daily life and as a parent of a Delta Tau Delta member, you should remain interested in your son’s activities. Anti-hazing Policy

Hazing is a practice with no value or virtue and as such, has no place within the Delt community. Because hazing in any form goes against the values of Delta Tau Delta, we have an absolute, no-tolerance policy regarding any act of hazing.

Men of Delta Tau Delta live and learn through the Delt Creed, which strives to educate young men while inspiring maturity. And, because Delta Tau Delta is an organization committed to lives of excellence, we stand firmly alongside other Greek men and women who have pledged themselves to ending hazing on college campuses. Collectively, we support an anti-hazing hotline (1-888-not-haze) that provides a way for suspected hazing to be reported.

When our son first presented the idea of joining Delta Tau Delta, we reacted like any parent would: we immediately thought he would be with a bunch of other guys partying on the weekends and would eventually start slacking on his studies. Jake assured us that this was not the case with Delta Tau Delta organization and, on the contrary, there are rules in place to keep the members on top of their grades. When Jake let us know that he joined the Delts we were still not sure we made the right decision.

During Omicron Chapter’s parent’s weekend, we quickly found out that the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity at the University of Iowa is full of great young men who care about each other and the community around them. The upperclassmen kept the incoming members on the right track and helped out when they needed it whether it was with their studies or other issues they might have while being away at school. The Delts are always thinking of ways to help out the local organizations such as the hospital by doing charity events to raise money or just volunteering to help out the schools in the area.

We have seen our son Jake turn into a fine young man during his time at the university and we can definitely say that joining the Delta Tau Delta fraternity has been the main contributor to his transformation. We hear so many positive things when he talks about the Fraternity.

“You’re a Delt for life,” they are all over the world, and they do watch over each other even after they graduate and move on in their lives. We are truly amazed when Jake talks to us about who he has met at the meetings and conferences that he has attended. We highly recommend that if anyone’s son is considering joining the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, do not hesitate to make it happen, come to the parents weekend and meet the fine young men that have made this fraternity one of the best at the University of Iowa. Join us in the group of proud parents who can brag and say “my son is and will always be a brother of Delta Tau Delta.”
